Big individual seasons led to some big individual accolades for a pair of players on the Hollister High School baseball team.
Sophomore Layton Morgan was a second-team all-state selection by the Missouri Baseball Coaches Association after a breakout season for the Tigers. Sophomore teammate Konner Hatfield was an honorable-mention pick.
Morgan made the Class 4 team as a DH/Utility player. He finished with a .404 batting average with 38 hits, 12 doubles, five triples, four home runs, 44 RBIs and 30 runs scored.
He helped lead Hollister to an 18-6 final record, an upset of reigning state champion Aurora in the district tournament and appearance in the district championship game.
Hatfield was a standout in center field for the Tigers, with a .361 batting average, 30 hits, six doubles, one home run, 15 RBIs and 29 runs scored.
Rainy and wet conditions on Sunday forced the postponement of All-Star Weekend, featuring boys’ and girls’ soccer games featuring the best players from the Central Ozark Conference.
The games were pushed back to this Sunday, with the girls’ game at 4 p.m. and the boys’ game to follow.
Participants include Brooke Hunn and Katie Jaeger from the Branson girls’ team, and Blake Stoner and Dwight Hyde from the Branson boys’ team.
