Area churches, groups offer Thanksgiving dinners

Tri-Lakes Area residents who need a place to go for a hot meal this Thanksgiving have several options.

Meals will be offered by a number of area churches and faith-based organizations for members of the community, the less fortunate and those who might not have any family members in the area to share the holiday with.

•Jesus Was Homeless, Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church, 203 Vaughn Road, Branson. Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 22, Jesus Was Homeless, a nonprofit Christian ministry, is holding its fifth annual Thanksgiving dinner.

Amy Stallings with Jesus Was Homeless said the group expects to feed 900 to 1,000 people.

Volunteers are asked to show up at the church at 4:15 p.m. Doors will open at 6 p.m., with the meal served from 6-8.

Stallings said transportation also will be provided to and from some of the weekly and extended-stay motels in the Branson area. Those needing transportation are asked to call 417-335-9915.

•Reeds Spring Intermediate School, 175 Elementary Road, Reeds Spring. Shirley West, a local resident of employee of the Reeds Spring School District, along with her family and friends, will host a free Thanksgiving Day dinner at Reeds Spring Intermediate School.

This is West’s third year to host the dinner. She said her husband, whose birthday was around Thanksgiving every year, died six years ago and the dinner is given in his honor and a way for West and her friends and family to give back to the community.

Dinner will be served starting at noon Thanksgiving Day at the school. West said around 12:30 p.m. they’ll begin delivering meals and what food isn't served at the dinner will be delivered. Anyone needing a meal delivered may call West at the school through Tuesday at 417-272-8250. After Tuesday, West may be reached at 417-337-3414.

• Lakewood Church, 19585 Highway 413, Reeds Spring. Lakewood Church in Reeds Spring is hosting a free Thanksgiving Day dinner beginning at noon. The dinner is open to the public. The church is located between Branson West and Reeds Springs High School on Missouri 413. For reservations, call 417-272-9813.

• Bridge of Faith Community Church, 296 Lake St., Rockaway Beach. Wednesday, Nov. 21, Bridge of Faith Community Church is holding its fifth annual Thanksgiving community meal. Nadeine Gold, ministry assistant, said the church will cook for 200 people, with help from volunteers from Second Baptist Church, Springfield.

Freewill offerings for the Rockaway Beach Library will be accepted. For more information, people may call 417-561-0777.

• Fraternal Order of the Eagles, 8089 Highway 76, Cape Fair. The Fraternal Order of Eagles 4278, Cape Fair, is holding its annual Thanksgiving meal on Thursday beginning around noon. The meal will be open to the public and will be staffed by volunteer Eagle members. For more information people may call the Eagles at 417-538-4733.
