Storm confirms need for shelters

When an EF2 tornado tore through parts of Taney and Stone counties during the early morning of Feb. 29, children were at home and no school buildings were damaged but the tragedy reinforced the need for safe rooms, according to several local superintendents.

Hollister School District was already in the process of obtaining a Federal Emergency Management Agency grant to build two safe rooms in the district — a process that started in the spring of 2009.
